HMG welcomes orthopaedic surgeon Robert D. Swift, DO
Tuesday, September 23, 2008KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Subspecialty-trained in advanced arthrosocopy and sports medicine, orthopaedic surgeon Robert D. Swift, DO, comes to Holston Medical Group from Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic, Columbus, Ga. Trained by some of the nation’s leading orthopaedic surgeons recognized for their advanced proficiency in arthroscopy and sports medicine, Dr. Swift intends to utilize his enhanced skill in treating conditions of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle in complimenting HMG’s orthopaedic team. Dr. Swift will also work closely with HMG Rehabilitation Services providers in caring for the challenging sports medicine-related conditions impacting area athletes. Board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Swift received his undergraduate degree from Washington & Jefferson College, Washington, Pa. He completed his doctorate of osteopathy at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following, he completed a general surgery internship at the Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Ga., and an orthopaedic residency at the Cooper University Medical Center/UMDNJ-SOM, Stratford, New Jersey. With an orthopaedic career that includes 16 years of military service in the United State Army, including wartime service in Afghanistan in relation to the global war on terrorism, Dr. Swift is the recipient of numerous military awards and academic endeavors. Most notably, he received the Bronze Star Medal for service in Afghanistan and the Joint Service Achievement Medical for service in the former Yugoslavic Republics. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics, the American Osteopathic Association, the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.
