Holston Medical Group Donates $8,030 To The American Hearth Association

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Holston Medical Group President & Founder Jerry L. Miller, MD, recently presented two checks totaling $8,030.00 to Rob Bunch, regional director for the American Heart Association.
The first check, $6,930, resulted from a HMG “Healthy Heart” gift card campaign designed to give individuals access to leading-edge technology successful in detecting coronary artery disease at an early stage. “Healthy Heart” gift card recipients were entitled to a Cardiac CT for Calcium Scoring diagnostic imaging — a screening that is ten times a more powerful predictor of coronary artery disease than cholesterol screenings.
To date, 693 gift cards have been purchased within the Tri-Cities. HMG donated $10 from the sale of every card to the American Heart Association, resulting in a $6,930 gift.
Currently, HMG’s Outpatient Diagnostic Center at MeadowView Lane is the only facility within the Tri-Cities offering this revolutionary cardiac imaging technology.
“Our desire was to make advanced technology readily available that had the capacity of possibly preventing a heart attack, heart failure, or even early death,” says Miller. “It only seemed fitting that we should donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each card to a national health agency whose mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.”
Healthy Heart gift cards ($99 value) may be purchased by calling the HMG’s Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging Center at MeadowView Lane at 423-857-2800.
The second check, $1,100, was a result of donations from HMG employees and providers who participated in HMG’s “Denim Day” during the month of February, the month nationally recognized as “American Heart Month.”
As a catalyst for raising funds for regional charitable organizations, each month HMG employees and providers are able to wear denim on the month’s designated “Denim Day” in exchange for a $5 donation. All collected monies are donated to a specified charitable organization.
