The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) occurs from October 15 to December 7 annually. As your health partner for life, we want to ensure you are aware of the plans that we will participate in for 2023.

At age 65, you’re eligible for Parts A and B, even if you still work. You may be eligible for Medicare because your spouse is a qualified wage earner. A qualified wage earner is someone who worked for 10 years and had Social Security taxes withheld. If you’re under 65 and have a disability, you may also qualify for Medicare Parts A and B. When you become eligible for Medicare, you qualify for an Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). You have seven months to enroll in a Medicare or prescription drug plan. This period begins three months before you turn 65 and extends three months after the month you turn 65.

As your health partner for life, we want to make sure you have up-to-date information on the plans we participate in. Below is a list of plans your HMG provider will accept in 2024 for Tennessee and Virginia patients:

What’s the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement?

Medicare Advantage combines Medicare Part A and B for comprehensive coverage, all in one plan. It often includes Part D Prescription Drug coverage, too. These are also called Part C plans. It takes the place of Traditional Medicare but you still carry your traditional red, white and blue Medicare card.

Medicare Supplement, also called Medigap, insurance policies help pay the out-of-pocket expenses not covered by Original Medicare (Part A and B). It is not part of the government’s Medicare program, but provides coverage in addition to it.

Here are some important dates you should be aware of for the following enrollment periods:

October 15 – December 7: Open Enrollment Period (OEP). If you’re unhappy with your Medicare Advantage Plan (Medicare Part C) there’s a Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 – March 31 when you can change your health plan. You can do one of these:

1) Switch to a different Medicare Advantage Plan with or without drug coverage
2) Go back to Original Medicare and, if needed, also join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan

Note: This information does not apply to Medicare Supplement/Medigap plans.
